The Tang Dynasty (618 to 906 AD) has been referred to as the Chinese Renaissance. One factor that had a pivotal role to play in the huge leaps of technology that accompanied this time was the re-opening of the Silk Road. The silk road first opened up trade routes through China, Mongolia and Tibet, India and beyond, to Arabia, Persia, and the Mediterranean Sea. The Tang Dynasty was a melting pot. China was embracing Buddhism, and has many foreigners living in various Chinese cities. This tile seems to show an Indian influence. The Bas-relief sculptures and carvings of the Tang dynasty also often seem similar to Persian art. |
