Liebermann Pottery & Tableware

Sammy Liebermann established Liebermann Pottery in Johannesburg in 1956 following the Bernard Leach Shoji Hamada tradition with an extensive range of traditional handmade cottage tableware and dinnerware and ceramic picture tiles. We've just opened a new gallery in Cape Town too.

A range of garden planters and garden decor was added by Adriaan Turgel from the 1980's on. Although we keep a supply of cheap wholesale terracotta flower planters, it's not our main focus. Brilliantly-coloured contemporary garden planters and vases, with their distinctive Liebermann ambience, have been in production since the 1980's, and continue to develop.

In June 2011 we opened a branch in Cape Town, in Sunnydale, near Kommetjie, on a stunning 5 acre smallholding.

About Us

Pottery detective, Adriaan Turgel, Sammy’s nephew, scours the Far East for fabulous super-sized rustic, antique, and contemporary urns, planters, fish ponds, rare porcelain and traditional ceramics.

For the Bonsai enthusiast, the Liebermann Gallery has the largest selection of planters on the continent. Intrepid bargain hunters will find seconds at half-price in the courtyard. An exciting array of Southern African potters and ceramic artists, both rural and urban, including Lisa Liebermann, are showcased at Liebermann Gallery. The Gallery is located in the historic Gas Works, close to the trendy Melville shopping area. Our Cape Town gallery also has a great bonsai range. It's situated on an old Cape farm, on Kommetjie Main Road, near Kommetjie on the Cape Peninsula.

We are open to the public 7 days a week, available for event hire, offer cheap wholesale discounts, and can arrange delivery to anywhere in Southern Africa.
