Garden Pots Black Wine Jars
Rice wine brewing is a longstanding tradition across China and South East Asia, with written records dating back to the Shang Dynasty (16th to 11th century BC) — though the practice is far older than any inscription. Throughout rural China, wineries ferment rice wine in giant glazed earthenware jars, covered with loose-fitting lids to let fermentation gases escape. Smaller jars are sold to local families, and can be seen discarded outside homes like giant ceramic papsaks.
Some potteries specialise entirely in making these jars, and we stock a range of them. To read more about how they are used in the brewing process, visit this link. We also have many more pots with curved shapes not shown on this page, so if you don't see what you want, please ask us.
